I'm a Science Communicator...

The first time I meet someone, and tell them I am a science communicator or that I have an MSc in Science and Health Communication, the usual first question I get is 'What's that?'.  I think the best way to explain science communication is through examples, so here are some of the projects that I have produced or been part of, and what I've gained from these experiences.

My Projects

BIG Event 2024 - Cardiff

My second trip to the BIG Event - a skill sharing network for sci-comm - was my first chance to actually give back and share my thoughts with the community.

EASST-4S - A conference on the Social Study of Sciences

My first time presenting my own research at an academic conference, and alongside some 'celebs' (in my view) from the world of science communication and education research

Planetary Health Alliance Meeting 2024

At PHAM2024, I joined my PI, and a huge community of professionals, advocates and activists to discuss how we should turn research into action.

PHI's Ethnicity, Health Equity and AI Project

My first big project for PHI, my lab at the University of Oxford, was organising the communications campaign for their 'Ethnicity, Health Equity and AI' Project

Social Justice in Science Education - My MSc Dissertation

For my MSc research project, I studies how science educators in various roles centre social justice in their work, using the concept of 'Science Capital'.

Science Learning Trail in Whitworth Park

My mentored project, part of my MSc course, involved me designing a scan-able trail of learning activities in a local park.

Pint of Science

As part of the Pint of Science festival, I helped to coordinate and host the 'Creative Reactions' events in Manchester.

That's Science

That's Science is my podcast with Susan O'Flynn, where we explore what makes science the subject we know today.
