I'm already almost a third of the way through my final year at Lancaster, which is beyond terrifying. At the moment, I'm busy purifying protein and getting myself ready for my protein assays for my dissertation, but I wanted to show you some work I did for one module last half term.
One of my compulsory modules last half term was 'Cell Signalling'. For the coursework component of this module, we wrote 300 words minireviews on hugely broad topics: from TGF beta signalling in cancer to glucose mediation of insulin release. The 300 words were designed as a challenge, with the module aiming to aid our skills in summarising key points of information. The only way I got through these coursework assignments was through highly detailed and original diagrams, which helped me clearly illustrate the highlights of the topic. Sometimes I created these using BioRender and other digital diagram software, but sometimes it was just me, a (digital) pen and my imagination trying to condense all the information onto a single side of A4.
Looking back at all of the diagrams I made, I think you can see the progress as I realised what was important, and developed better skills at using the diagram to tell the story clearly, which was reflected in my grades on these assignments. I hope you like them!
Q1) Glucagon in glucose metabolism
Q2) Insulin secretion modulation
Q3) GPC3 in morphogenesis
Q4) TGF beta signalling in cancer progression
Q5) Cytokine - STAT - signal specificity
